What We Do.
Volunteer Professional Dog Teams Locating Lost and Missing Persons
Search
CCSAR is deployed by police, fire, or state emergency management agencies to provide fully trained and professional canine teams for searches involving lost or missing persons. Our volunteers and their dogs are certified in one or more of CCSAR’s four primary search disciplines: woodland airscent, human remains detection, trailing, and water search.
Train
CT Canine Search and Rescue dogs undergo extensive training, often requiring eighteen months or more of multiple sessions per week to develop into reliably skilled search dogs. Ongoing training is also necessary to maintain proficiency and pass re-certification tests. To meet CCSAR’s high standards, handlers and support personnel complete extensive training and testing in areas such as wilderness navigation, search and rescue techniques, radio communication, first aid, and other critical skills.
Educate
CCSAR maintains an active outreach program to raise awareness about its work and promote personal safety in the outdoors. Members and their dogs visit schools, camps, and community groups across Connecticut, offering educational talks and demonstrations that showcase search techniques and share important safety tips.
